Abstract:
We will conduct a targeted field investigation at the shoreline known locally as the “End of the World” in Bywater, New Orleans, with the explicit objective of locating and documenting the physical edge of the Earth. At a fixed, measured observer eye-height and with tripod-mounted optics and a clinometer in place, we will traverse the riverfront to designated vantage points and record continuous visual and photographic observations along the horizon line until an abrupt termination of the surface is observed. Using time-stamped imagery, precise GPS coordinates, and angular measurements, we will document the point at which the terrain and water abruptly cease—hereafter referred to as the edge—captured directly within the field record. Atmospheric conditions will be noted only insofar as they coincide with the moment the edge becomes visually apparent; the principal outcome will be the empirical observation and georeferenced documentation of the Earth’s edge at the specified site.
