Trail #789: Happy Leif Erikson Day!

In 1001 Anno Domino
Leif Erikson did a thing
that nobody remembers…

what is the point of this poem?

October 9th is a little-known holiday in North America: it is a day that commemorates Leif Erikson, legendary Norse Viking, who set foot on this continent almost 500 years prior to Columbus. (October 9th is not the day he landed in Canada, but the day the ship Restauration, from Stavanger, Norway, arrived in New York Harbor in 1825, beginning a wave of immigration from Norway to America. Mr. hEd’s ancestors were most likely on that boat! Thanks,!)

People of the Norselands have shaped New Orleans for centuries yet so little is known about their influence in this region. Come on out on Thursday for a little history, a lot of Spongebob references, and a visit from Leif Erikson’s ghost. Bring ID & money for an extra credit check.
